Day 14: 30 Days of Gratitude - For Home Builders and Property Managers

The right to adequate housing is recognized as part of the right to an adequate standard of living within article 25 of the 1948 Universal Declaration of Human Rights and in article 11.1 of the 1966 International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights.

The National Housing Strategy Act (June 2019) affirms that the government’s housing policy is based on the recognition of the right to housing as it is understood in international human rights law. This means recognizing that all people have the “right to live somewhere in security, peace and dignity,” It requires the government to implement reasonable policies and programs to ensure the right to housing for all within the shortest possible timeframe. It also means priority must be given to vulnerable groups and those in greatest need of housing.

As we give thanks for those who build homes and apartments which provide shelter and security for persons in our community, we pray that policies may be enacted that will stabilize housing costs and increase the availability of affordable housing in our community and beyond. Amen.
