Another Tragedy that Needs Our Care: On Thursday Sept 7, 2017, close to midnight, a magnitude 8.1 earthquake struck off the pacific coast of Mexico causing devastation in the state of Oaxaca. At the time of writing NBC News reported that over 90 people were killed in all of Mexico by the earthquake…71 of whom were in Oaxaca!
Oaxaca has special significance for us enjoy Just Us! coffee as this has been an area that has been the focus for many small projects over the past 12 years. If you would like to support relief efforts donations can be made made payable to the Parish of French Village (Oaxaca Relief) as:

SOMETHING (NOT) PERCOLATING AT SUC: After many years of faithful service, our black coffee maker has finally met the end of its coffee-making days. If anyone has a coffee maker not currently being used that they would like to donate for regular use at the church, please speak with Bruce or Judith.
PRAYER BENCH PROGRAMME ON DEATH AND DYING: In October you are invited to gather over a four week period (one hour per week) to walk through a programme on death and dying as developed by Janice MacLean. The exact time and dates will be decided later. If you are interested please write your name on the sign-up sheet on the wall near the kitchen area. FUNDRAISER FOR AUTUMN HOUSE: “Join us on Friday, Sept 29 at 7pm for a musical evening in aid of our local transition house …… Autumn House. The Rollickers (Celtic Folk Group), Silver Rose (Gospel Trio) and the Baptist Choir will perform at the First Baptist Church on Victoria St., in downtown Amherst. There is no admission charge, we ask only for a good will offering. There will be a Harvest Sale of baked goods and preserves. The entertainment will be followed by cookies, coffee & tea. Please come out to support these generous musicians and Autumn House.”
LOST RING AT JEWELLERY SALE: Susan Dales misplaced her ring at the jewellery sale table last Saturday – a silver band with a haida design. It could have been included in someone’s purchases. If you bought jewellery, please have a quick look just in case. It’s a treasure. If you happen to find it, call the Church or contact Susan at 899-0578. And happy news: the sale was a great success. Thanks to everyone who contributed jewellery and who bought jewellery.

Coming Up this Fall at SPC
Tuesday & Wednesdays: Spiritual Literacy Group. Using resources from Frederic and Mary Ann Brussat this small group (and another on Wednesday evenings) will explore spiritual attitudes and practices that can contribute to living lives of meaning: attention, gratitude, kindness, play and the list goes on. On each Tuesday morning and Wednesday evening we will explore the same theme – so, if you can’t make a Tuesday morning come on Wednesday evening or vice versa.
Consider taking part: Tuesdays at 10am or Wednesday at 7pm
Sept 22-24th: Sackville United Church will host the Godly Play Core Training on these dates. On Sunday the participants will share in leading an Intergenerational Worship Service using principles and practices of Godly Play.
Sept 27th: Lloyd will be travelling to Fredericton to take part in a ‘Commitment to Community’ discussion with Greta Vosper and others. There is room in the car for three others. Let him know if you’d like to come along for the ride and the conversation.
Sunday Oct 1st: Worldwide Communion Sunday. In addition to breaking bread and sharing the cup at both 9am and 11am services on this Sunday we will begin again hosting a monthly service at the Drew Nursing Home at 3pm. Please plan to come out and embrace the residents there in the circle of care this is our vibrant faithful community! Also on this Sunday Rockport will be hosting their Thanksgiving Service at 2pm and Lloyd will be preaching at the Covenanting Service at the Cumberland Pastoral Charge as they begin to share ministry with Bill Drysdale (DLM).
FOODGRAINS BANK SERVICE FOR THANKSGIVING: On October 8, Margaret Tusz-King will be leading a service on a theme of food, hunger, and the work of the Canadian Foodgrains Bank. She is looking for volunteers interested in planning and/or participating in the service.
THANKSGIVING HARVEST TABLE: As has been our tradition these past few years, on Thanksgiving Sunday (Oct 8) we invite the congregation to bring in “harvest” items, both fresh and canned that will be used to create a harvest display for the service, and which will then be donated to the food bank. Unfortunately, no homemade canned or baked items can be used, per food bank regulations.
