ANNOUNCEMENTS for May 6, 2018 – Easter VI
A New Look Online: We (particularly Rev. Lloyd) have worked diligently this week to give our website a breath of fresh spring air – have a look at our new look and content that reflects who we are now! Please note that email subscribers to our website can change the frequency with which you receive updates from us – the office is happy to help guide you through this process, as, while we are in the process of updating the website (which may take a few more days), you may receive a large number of posts unless you set the frequency to “daily”.
OFFICE HOURS FOR MAY/JUNE and SUMMER OFFICE HOURS: Office hours for May and June are Wednesday-Friday from 9am-12pm. During the summer, the office will be open on Thursdays and Fridays from 9am-12pm.
OFFERING ENVELOPES AVAILABLE: Are you interested in having offering envelopes, or in receiving a charitable receipt for your contributions? Please speak to the church office, or simply write your name and address and attach it to your contribution.
CEMETERY CLEANUP: Meet at the cemetery at 1PM on May 10. Bring leaf rakes, your sense of humour and hands willing to work together to beautify the cemetery. All are welcome. Terry McMaster is coordinating the clean up and he will bring bags from the town. This is an excellent opportunity for folk from our two congregations and others in the community to work at a common cause! See you there!
YARD SALE: The annual Yard and Bake sale for Upper Sackville is coming up soon! Join us on Saturday May 12 from 8-11am at Upper Sackville United (148 Pond Shore Rd) for and fun and delicious time for a good cause!
Conversation Café and Potluck at SUC: On the last Sunday of the month, we welcome a special guest speaker to help us explore our faith in a different way, followed by a potluck. The next conversation café will take place on June 24, with special guest Dawn Ferris.
APCWWE Donations Now Being Accepted: With the signing of an official memorandum of understanding between Sackville United Church and the All For Peace: Children’s Welfare and Women’s Empowerment (APCWWE), we are now able to receive and pass on charitable donations to this organization, started in part by Jafari Songolo Ramazani, one of our new arrival family members. Read more about the APCWWE on the church website.
Counselling Services Available: Would you or someone you know like to talk through a problem? Narrative Counselling offered by Rev. Robyn Brown-Hewitt is available on Thursdays in the Mt.A Chapel Office. To book an appointment contact: rbrownhewitt@mta.ca. Robyn is the UCC Campus Minister in the Multifaith Services Office of Dalhousie University. This year she is enrolled in the Master of Narrative Therapy & Community Work degree program through the University of Melbourne which requires that counselling practicum hours be completed every week. And so, in addition to counselling hours at Dal, she has also been offering counselling services to Mt. A students, staff and the wider community (with the agreement of Mt. A Chaplain, Rev. John Perkin) since the beginning of February 2018.

TAG BOOK READING: The Tantramar Association of Grandmothers is planning an evening of tea and talk – a book discussion of the wonderful book “Powered by Love: a Grandmothers’ Movement to End AIDS in Africa” for Tuesday, May 15th at 6:30 pm at the Sackville Public Library. We invite you to join us and to bring a friend. We will be concentrating on the Foreward, Preface, and Introduction as well as Chapter 7. The book is available at the Sackville Public Library, Tidewater Books, and several of the Tantramar Grandmothers have the book and they would happily lend it to anyone who would like to borrow it (just contact Heather Patterson and she will make the arrangement). See you there and be prepared to be inspired!
FOOD BANK SUNDAY: Sunday May 20 is the next food bank Sunday for the Pastoral Charge. We are asked to bring our offerings of non-perishable food items or consider a monetary contribution to the food bank to help meet the immediate needs of our neighbours and friends, even as we continue to address the underlying injustices that lead to long-term food insecurity.
PAPER COPIES OF ONLINE MATERIALS: For those who are not tech savvy or who do not own a computer, paper copies of Lloyd’s Monday Musings and other web-only material are available through the church office.
A “SOCIAL VISIT”: Family members of some residents at the Drew are seeking friends of their loved ones to make social visit. If you are willing to share your contact information with these individuals so they can reach out to you, please let the office know.
Prayers for the Community: Is there someone or something you would like held or lifted up in prayer this month? Our prayer circle is ready to hear your concerns and joys and pray for them – please send your messages to Mora MacDonald at morabullydog@yahoo.ca. All requests are kept in confidence among the group, who are always mindful of your privacy.
