Sunday is but a memory – albeit one that lingers with the residual scent of bbq in my office from the event on Sunday. It was such a joy to see people of all ages enjoying the gifts of community and food – and oh, the fun that was had as cakes and cupcakes were auctioned off to raise funds for renovations to the building that will assist us in being more environmentally responsible! Thank you to all who contributed!
I don’t know about you, but for me Summer Sunday Gatherings are more relaxed, casual even – and, Jennie and I have decided to try and take this to the next level. Starting on Sunday June 30th we will be borrowing an idea from Pictou United Church: Kitchen Party Worship. We will gather at 10AM with coffee, tea and goodies followed by a good old-fashioned hymn sing. And, when we’ve just about exhausted our voices we’ll worship with stories, a reflection, special music and prayers.
Also on Sunday June 30th we will welcome Rose who will have arrived in Canada from Uganda via Kenya on Wednesday June 26th. Come and join us in welcoming her with hymns sung in Luganda and Runyoro!
But first, this Sunday June 23th we will break bread and share in the cup of community. At 9AM Upper Sackville will follow their service with a Summer Tea as they move into a time of Summer Pause. And at the 11AM Gathering at Sackville United Church, in addition to communion we will welcome new members. Do come and join us for these special times of community and sharing!
Faithfully, Lloyd
Looking Ahead
Today I have meetings and visits and will be trying to get a head start on the liturgy for Sunday. Tomorrow I am in Halifax for the day attending a required training event: Healthy Boundaries for Religious Leaders. I am looking forward to having supper with Justin following the event.
Wednesday will see me in Moncton for meetings in the morning after which I’ll take some personal time before attending the Sackville United Church Executive meeting at 6:30PM. And finally, on Thursday I’ll spend the better part of the day writing a reflection and finalizing the liturgy for Sunday.
As above, we’ll gather at Upper Sackville United Church at 9AM and Sackville United Church at 11AM on Sunday June 23rd where communion will be served as both services. On Sunday June 30th we move to summer hours with one gathering for the Pastoral Charge at 10AM. Hope to see you on Sunday – if not before!!
